Who Gives a Tweet About Your Tweets?

tweet_postWe’ve been there – you’ve worked diligently to grow your Twitter community but you aren’t getting as many new followers as you had hoped. It seems no one is interested in your tweets, and you might be starting to think you have to “pay to play” to be successful on Twitter. But before you start forking over ad dollars, put the mouse down! There’s a way to grow your Twitter followers organically. Although social media growth alone isn’t a win for a brand’s success, it is one of the ways that brands can measure their effectiveness at reaching consumers preparing for more engagement and ultimately promoting the brand. And lucky for fresh produce marketers, unlike Facebook there are other methods help you gain more Twitter followers that actually give a tweet about what you’re sharing without advertising. We recommend the following tips for improving your Twitter presence!

Follow relevant people, but don’t follow everyone
Though your success isn’t measured in followers, success comes with relevant followers. For example, if your brand offers a product that fits the dietary preferences of vegans, health coaches, registered dieticians, etc.-FOLLOW THEM! These followers are key contributors in growing a community of consumers that a fresh produce marketer can ultimately reach to promote the brand.

Talk to followers, not at them
Organically growing a Twitter account means that there is a need for a social media marketer to be comfortable in conversing with followers using the do’s and don’ts of engaging with users. Luckily, if you’ve followed consumers and influencers that are relevant, chances are your audience is already talking about your products! To build and nurture follower relationships, jump into conversations as the brand to answer questions, give helpful tips, and provide tasty recipes. After all, more engaged followers are better than fewer engaged followers.

Share only relevant content
Who gives a tweet if what you’re posting isn’t interesting or applicable to your followers? Although this step may seem obvious, crafting creative social media content for the fresh produce industry can be overwhelming with the amount of news, recipes and tips that can cloud any given social newsfeed. Tweet content that will be interesting to current and prospect followers by setting up Google Alerts, or a similar provider that sends email updates of content like “baby bella mushrooms” or “healthy vegan recipes” that resonate with followers. Doing so will not only ease the stress of sorting through handfuls of unserviceable stories, but will also provide a gold mine of relevant content to followers.
