One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? That’s what we kept telling ourselves when Marci insisted that we spare this old file cabinet as if it were the “homeless puppy” of local office equipment. Instead of the pound, this poor thing was headed to a dumpster full of half-working office supplies, shredded financial documents and leftovers from lunch. Yuck! The file cabinet is forever grateful for our compassionate souls (by “our,” I mean Marci’s).
So, after hefting the sad item into our office and nurturing it back to a stable condition, we realized that this could be one heck of a “drab to fab” project! That’s when we asked you, our readers, to share your input by voting on one of five design styles; Shabby Chic, Cottage Style, Contemporary, Asian Fusion, or Rustic Ranch. We never thought this old discarded heap would turn out to be one of our most popular Core posts!
The winning file cabinet design style was Cottage Style, so we lugged the dingy thing up to the third floor of our parking garage and set to work with some paint, Mod Podge and synthetic flowers for a little team building craft project. What do you think?
Have you ever done a trash to treasure sort of renovation? Tell us about it!
