We believe that the single most important attribute any marketer can possess at any level is a desire to never stop learning! So during Hubspot’s #Inbound Marketing Conference, the DMA Team was probably comparable to a couple of sponges, soaking up every marketing insight we received like it was the last drop on earth. The inspirations were endless, but there were a few marketing veterans who gave each of us our own “A-HA!” moments. Learn what each of these Inbounders said that inspired the fresh produce marketer in all of us.
Elizabeth Dunn, Ph.D – Associate Professor, University of British Colombia
As a happiness researcher, Elizabeth Dunn inspired me when she stated that “abundance is the enemy of appreciation.” She explained that when we have access to something at all times, we don’t appreciate it as much as we would if it were only available at certain times or in certain quantities. Sounds a lot like some of your fresh, seasonal products right? Dunn’s presentation was a great reminder that seasonality and availability may not be a challenge but instead an advantage. Fresh produce marketers can capitalize on the times when our fresh fruits and vegetables ARE available and truly make people happy!

Mike Volpe – CMO, HubSpot
Mike Volpe inspired me during a session discussing “Building and Managing an Inbound Marketing Team.” As we grow and evolve with our existing Inbound marketing clients at DMA, it is important that we are not only increasing the number of talented marketers that we have on our team, but also ensuring that we have the RIGHT talent with the expertise and skills to achieve our digital and Inbound marketing goals in an effort to increase consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Mike’s biggest recommendation to Inbound marketing managers like me? 1) Build a team to focus on outcomes, 2) let metrics crack the whip for you, 3) mentor by offering advice and 4) get out of the way and let your team surprise you.

Dharmesh Shah, – CTO and Co-founder, Hubspot
As the Chief Technology Officer for Hubspot, Dharmesh Shah isn’t usually the one to get up and address the audience about “big picture” Inbound marketing strategy, but he did it with a bang. To start his keynote, Dharmesh proclaimed that Inbound marketing isn’t the answer. Well, last time I checked I was at the #Inbound13 Conference, so what gives? Dharmesh went on to inspire me and the rest of the audience with his explanation that Inbound marketing isn’t the entire answer, rather being a remarkable marketer involves creating the entire Inbound experience. Most consumers don’t think of marketing in a separate bubble from sales or service the way marketers sometimes do. Remarkable marketers, however, are able to bring marketing, sales and service together and humanize all three to delight and bring value to their customers. THAT is what the Inbound methodology is about.
