“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” – Henry Ford
We came across this quote as we were working out our thoughts for this article, and honestly, don’t think we could sum up any better the wave of excitement, emotion and industry commitment that culminated at the inaugural >Live FIT 5K race.
When we first began brainstorming the practicality of hosting a 5K at Fresh Summit to help raise money in support of the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent, there were quite a few naysayers. “No one is going to get up that early to run.” “People just aren’t interested in that sort of event.” “The Fresh Summit schedule is jam packed as it is.” And to be truthful, those are valid points to take into consideration. However, the reality was quite different.
We saw an incredible level of commitment to support PMA FIT’s mission to attract, develop and retain talent for our industry. Sponsorships sold out early on, the race sold out during preregistration, and we still had people showing up onsite to see if they could join in the race as well. It was a remarkable turnout for the first ever Fresh Summit 5K!
But even better than the overall industry support we witnessed, it was awesome to see companies out on the race course in their matching team shirts, encouraging each other on and really showing their team spirit. In addition to The Core in our black and neon green race uniforms, some of the companies who stood out from the crowd were Grimmway Farms, Frontera Produce, Naturipe and Tanimura & Antle. We commend these companies for not only letting their team spirit shine, but for using this opportunity to do a little company promoting. We definitely noticed you!
Being strong advocates for this event, we are so excited to see such a successful outcome, and we look forward to what 2010 will hold for the Live FIT race. Until then, keep on living fit and building that team spirit!
The Essence: The inaugural Live FIT 5K was a resounding success in both fundraising as well as team spirit. Keep your training up; next year’s race in Orlando will be even better!
