30 Social Media Tips from the DMA Solutions Team

14-Main_Post-AD-30tipsAs social media marketers, it is our job at DMA Solutions to strategize our communications as we engage daily with the customers and consumers of our fresh produce clients. From a branding perspective, engaging on social media is of the utmost importance and requires skill, experience and finesse. In short, we take our social media work very seriously.

To be effective, we work to stay up-to-date on the ever-changing trends within the social media space that may impact our clients and the fresh produce industry’s ability to market to target audiences. People often ask us what our top tips are, so we’re going to serve it up to you on a silver platter.

Per your request, here are 30 of our tips for companies seeking to progress their social media strategy:

  1. Let the stories come to you by setting up RSS feeds and Google alerts surrounding the topics that connect the best to your brand.
  2. Invest in or find a free social media dashboard service like Hootsuite. This will keep you connected to several of your social media streams easily on your PC and on your mobile.
  3. Listen to conversations about the products that you sell and engage.
  4. Use hashtags carefully and appropriately.
  5. Be careful not to dive into trends too quickly (e.g. #Foodporn). Watch the space and jump in when and where appropriate.
  6. People want to connect with the people behind the brand, so capture culturally expressive moments with your mobile phone and share!
  7. Create and utilize other people’s public Twitter lists.
  8. Sell a lifestyle, not your product.
  9. Share other people’s content too, but especially the people that follow and are enthusiastic about your brand.
  10. Feel free to post more than one time a day on Facebook if you have something timely to share.
  11. Engage in conversation just like you would with someone you meet at a party.
  12. Reply to comments in a casual way and don’t be afraid to group people into one response.
  13. Say “thank you” to regular visitors/engagers to show you care.
  14. Follow like-minded people on all channels.
  15. “LIKE,” comment and share visuals and links from like-minded influencers on all channels.
  16. Be helpful and people will hang around. Sell to them and they’ll leave/unfollow.
  17. Be human. At the end of the day, people want to connect to the brand but they also follow the person behind the brand.
  18. Your “social voice” should always work to uphold the integrity of the brand.
  19. Be proactive with topics that your audience normally asks about (NON GMO, organic, etc.) by sharing regular content to address FAQs.
  20. Identify with your audience by sharing content that you know they care most about (recipes vs. food safety updates).
  21. Keep a list of annual holidays and occasions printed at your desk for every month of the year.
  22. Capitalize on frequently used hashtags within any given network.
  23. Determine the best times of day to post on your networks and maximize. This information is typically available within the social media networks’ analytics or insights area.
  24. Keep a close eye on how your social media work increases traffic (or doesn’t) to your website.
  25. Watch blogger trends and adapt your content accordingly.
  26. Make friends with bloggers. They can be instrumental when establishing trust amongst consuming audiences.
  27. Listen to and follow people, like thought leaders that know a lot about the area of business that you focus in. (Try @TheCoreBlog on Twitter for daily marketing insights…wink wink.)
  28. Share their information. Aligning yourself with a thought leader by sharing their information expresses more to your audience about your culture and your business attitude and position.
  29. Invite criticism and ask for advice. We are all trying to become better at our craft. When we listen to our social audiences, ask how they like to use your products and invite the opportunity for sharing to give you insights that help you frame content and provide feedback to your leadership.
  30. Give people free stuff. They love it!
