Another Success for Tour de Fresh (and Salad Bars!)

TdF Post.pngThe Tour de Fresh, presented by The California Giant Foundation, recently held their very first regional event in Fort Worth, Texas, and it was definitely a night to remember. With the same objective of bringing salad bars to schools, Tour de Fresh Texas raised more than $15,000 to fund five salad bars in the local Dallas/Fort Worth area, surpassing their goal of $10,000. This was made possible with the support and generous donations from Tour de Fresh Texas sponsors, including California Giant Berry Farms, Del Monte, DMA Solutions, Hort Americas, IFCO, Snappy Salads, Tessemae’s, and Tsamma.

Unlike the 3-day, 300+ mile signature Tour de Fresh events, Tour de Fresh Texas coincided with the city’s annual Spooky Bike and Ball, made possible by Mayor Betsy Price’s local movement, FitWorth, which encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through fitness events. This 7-mile bike ride was led by Mayor Price, an avid cyclist herself. Not only did participants get to ride through town dressed in their Halloween costumes (awesome, right?), but there were various activities for the whole family, including face painting, a bouncy house, a great DJ, and delicious local food trucks including Lee’s Grilled Cheese, Salsa Limon, and Islanders Hawaiian Style Eats & Treats.

Through Tour de Fresh Texas and the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative, thousands of students in 5 different schools across the D/FW metroplex have been given the opportunity to make healthier choices at breakfast and lunch. And with salad bars ranking as a top school strategy for increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, the Tour de Fresh hopes even more schools will apply to receive salad bars. What schools will the Tour de Fresh be bringing salad bars to in 2017?
