Happy Holidays: 3 Lessons for Marketers from Buddy the Elf

“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” -Buddy the Elf

The movie Elf is an iconic holiday movie and a must watch, that is, if you haven’t already seen it 100 times like our team. While it is easy to get caught up in all the sweet treats, lights, and presents, the movie Elf reminds us what Christmas is really all about.

Here are 3 lessons that we learn from Buddy the Elf that we can apply to marketing in the fresh produce industry:

People First

Buddy positively impacts everyone he meets. His genuine love for others and excitement for the holidays is contagious. We believe in applying this mindset when it comes to business – always keeping others in mind. Think about this from the perspective of your shoppers or customers. How can you truly make a positive and long-lasting impact on them this holiday season and beyond?

Kindness

Buddy the Elf is great at telling the people he loves how much he cares about them, not expecting anything in return. We all know the holidays can be stressful at times,  but it’s important to remember that quality time with your family and friends is what matters most. The same goes for your shoppers and online community. Customer service is more important now than ever and really makes a difference. Show your loyal followers how much you care for them in the following ways:

  • Engage with them on social media by liking or responding to their comments or direct messages.
  • Host giveaways on social media! This is a great way to promote your product but also show your followers that you genuinely care about them.
  • Be responsive! Answer direct messages, emails, and additional outreach as timely and efficiently as you can.

Work Hard

Buddy the Elf was never afraid of a challenge. When he fell behind in toy-making, he was sent to work in the basement. But he didn’t allow this to ruin his spirits and instead decided to work hard and prove himself.  The same goes for us in the fresh produce industry, or really any industry. When we experience setbacks, it’s up to us to pick ourselves up and try again.

Next time you watch the movie Elf, whether it be your first time or 100th time, remember these lessons that Buddy taught us and really think about how you can apply them to your work and your personal life.

From our team to yours, have a very Merry Christmas!
