Social Media in the Summertime

Happy summer! I know it seems early, but in marketing (and in Texas…) summer starts now. When it comes to social media, everything we share should directly tie back to what our audience is experiencing in their everyday life. So as we prep for the summer season, you need to be prepping your social media content as well.

What Is Different About Social Media in the Summertime?

People Are Spending Their Money Differently

According to MassMutual, more than half of all Americans spend more money in the summer than they do during cooler parts of the year. So what better time to utilize your marketing budget to reach new audiences? After all, if your audience is more likely to spend money, you need to make sure your product or service is in front of them at the right time.

People LOVE a summer deal. Our best recommendation is to host a summer sweepstake that can help boost social media communities, engagements, website traffic, new contacts, and more!

People Are Spending More Time Outside

As the weather heats up, people generally tend to spend more of their time outside. So, what does this have to do with your social media content?

  1. More time outside could potentially mean less time on social media, so be sure to plan your future content based on when your audience or target demographic is active. We use a publishing platform called Sprout Social that allows us to publish posts at the optimized time for each specific client based on their audience.
  2. Showcasing outdoor living and activity in your social media content will better connect you with your followers this season.
  3. Provide tips on how to stay cool! Think about creating an eBook of recipes to “Beat The Heat.”
  4. Make sure you are creating content that provides recipes and hacks for activities like grilling, picnics, cookouts, etc. Not only will it provide inspiration to your audience, but it will also allow them to relate directly to it and see themselves using your product.

People Are Eating More Consciously

When you think about it, it seems quite obvious that people would choose healthier options in the summertime. As we enter into swimsuit season, people are automatically going to be more conscious about what they are putting into their bodies. According to the National Library of Medicine, when temperatures rise, people are actually proven to look for light and refreshing foods that help cool them down. Isn’t that lucky for us? In your marketing efforts, be sure to share new recipes that fit this need on social media and promote them… and don’t forget this year’s big food trends to inspire you!

As marketers, we know that each new season brings new opportunities and we hope these simple tips help your wheels turn when it comes to social media execution in the summertime. On the other hand, we do understand that social media planning and strategy at any time of year takes a whole lot of brainpower and time, so if we can support you in any way this summer or throughout the year, give us a call!
