Our Top 5 Food & Marketing Apps to Watch in 2017

iStock-517153726-866867-edited.jpgAs we identified in our previous post about the hottest trends for 2017, more personalized, convenient and philanthropic approaches to marketing are becoming important for brands to implement in the months ahead or risk falling behind. Taking advantage of apps and subscription services (another hot trend for 2017) is just one way fresh produce marketers can consider reaching people on a more personalized level. We’ve rounded up some apps in our two favorite categories (food and marketing, obviously) that hit the nail on the head when it comes to providing shoppers with what they want in 2017 – convenience and philanthropy.

Top 5 Food & Marketing Apps to Watch in 2017

1. SnackNation

Tired of having to settle for a bag of chips or candy bar when you find yourself “hangry” at work? SnackNation may be the key to your workplace snack dilemma. They deliver healthy snacks from brands big and small each month in a curated box tailored to your needs. And if you’re not sold yet, they also donate 10 meals via Feeding America for every box they deliver. So you can feel even better about your healthy snacking!

2. iBotta

So this app is not exactly new on the scene- iBotta was one of the first rebate apps that paid users to grocery shop (and we’ve written about them before here and here). This app provides fresh produce brands with a great opportunity to partner with your retailers in 2017! Not only can it boost sales on your products, but it will also benefit your marketing efforts; in order to receive the coupons on these apps, the consumer must complete some kind of marketing action, whether that’s filling out a form on a landing page, following you on social media, or answering a survey question. Win-win for both your sales AND marketing teams!

3. Hungry Harvest

Did you know that 20% of produce goes to waste because of aesthetic imperfections each year? If you’re not afraid of a misshapen apple or “ugly” veggie, and also want to help decrease the hunger crisis, you’ve found a new friend in the Hungry Harvest team. In the two years they’ve been delivering fresh produce boxes, they’ve kept 1 million pounds of food from going to the landfill and donated almost 300,000 pounds to people in need. Collaboration could spell big opportunities for a food waste reduction story.

4. House Party

Are you that person in your friend group who’s ALWAYS talking about your favorite new products? Or looking to get your brand in front of potential new enthusiasts? House Party partners with everyday influencers to create buzz about new products and encourage trial- and they love partnering with fresh brands!

5. The Produce Box

This subscription box started by a mom of two in 2007 has expanded to support more than 40 farmers and 60 artisan food businesses across the United States- now that’s something we can get behind! One of our favorite things about the Produce Box is that they choose the freshest in-season produce so that each box received is at peak flavor and freshness for ultimate nutritional value and taste, and also helps to educate its subscribers on how to prepare the fruits and veggies to take advantage of that season.

We’re excited to keep watching for innovative new (or old) marketing and foodie apps in 2017, and we bet these will continue to blow our marketing socks off! Have a brand or company that you think is killing it? Let us know in the comments!
