4 New Years Resolutions for Public Relations

With the new year, comes new resolutions – and why not let getting on top of your public relations efforts be one of them? When it comes to your brand and public relations, we’ve created a list to set you up for success in 2023. If you’re a marketer ready to take full advantage of PR services, here are our top four resolutions to consider:

4 Public Relations Resolutions For 2023

1.  Set Goals

When it comes to public relations, sometimes it can be a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants environment. In 2023, we recommend taking a step back to set a few goals around media presence for your company. Goals could be set around the total number of placements and media impressions you want to achieve, as well as how many product samples you would like to send out for media to sample.

2. Make a Plan

Speaking of goals, one of the most efficient ways to achieve any goal is to make a plan on how to get there. When it comes to public relations, we like to map out our pitch strategies by the month – forecasting the news we plan to share. Start by gathering the news you know you want to release and plot out that news by month. Look to see where you have gaps and strategize which months you will need to fill in news to share, whether that be announcements on new hires, c-suite updates, a timely harvest, crop updates, etc. This should allow you to gather your news and share it in a timely, organized manner with the media.

3. Get Assets in Order

Tired of the same old press release format you’ve been using for the past five (or more) years? Now is a great time to take a look at assets that have been used over and over again and see where improvements can be made to make your brand stand out in 2023.

Aside from press releases, we encourage reviewing media lists at least once per year (quarterly is ideal)  to ensure you’re reaching the right people for your news.

4. Invest in a PR Tool

With a new year comes, for most, a new budget year. Either with remaining dollars or what we hope is considered a worthwhile investment, a PR tool such as Cision or Meltwater is sure to help streamline your efforts. A key tool for finding journalists, publications, reporting, and much more, a PR tool can help guide efforts and cut down on time researching for information and key contact emails.

The sky is the limit when it comes to the strategies you can implement to elevate your brand in 2023. But, if you start with the four listed in this post, we guarantee your public relations efforts will be easier, and more manageable in the new year. From all of us at DMA, we’re wishing you a year full of success and happiness. We’d love to help you assess your current social media marketing plan and find ways to grow. Give us a call!
